Another potentially serious policy fault line emerged on Tuesday night when the freshly-installed shadow work and pensions secretary Owen Smith contradicted Mr Corbyn over whether the party wanted to abolish the Government’s benefits cap.
“If they have a physical disability, it is usually fairly obvious and it can be quantified and, we hope, taken into account in how the interview and test are conducted”.
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Corbyn responded to concerns from pro-EU Labour MPs over his stance on the forthcoming referendum by strongly indicating he would support an In vote.
But Mr Corbyn now must wrangle a bitterly divided caucus, with seven members of his shadow cabinet resigning from the front bench.

But then, once Corbyn had finished, it was the usual free-for-all – and the volume of the braying and shouting, together with the immature grandstanding, increased.
Less than 24 hours after Corbyn’s election, his deputy Tom Watson said he and Corbyn disagreed over key defence policies such as Britain’s membership of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation , and such issues “have got to be worked out”.
