Jeremy Iron and Brendan Gleeson join Assassin’s Creed movie
Irons Michael Fassbender will play the lead role in the film, joined by Marion Cotillard in a co-starring role.
As the movie is set in the same world as the Assassin’s Creed video games rather than a live-action retelling of one of them, plot details are now scarce. Whether this is just a production code name or the film will actually be subtitled “Assassin’s Creed: Time Out of Mind” remains to be seen, although it does sum up the anachronistic nature of the franchise. He’s also the father of Donhmal Gleeson, who can be seen in Ex Machina and in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Irons plays Cotillard’s father. “Assassin’s Creed” is being co-financed by RatPac and Alpha Pictures with Frank Marshall, Arnon Milkman, Jean-Julien Baronet, Conor McCaughan, Fassbender and Pat Crowley sharing producer credits.
The Assassin’s Creed video game has sold over 91 million units.
In Assassin’s Creed, Lynch (Fassbender) discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain.
The movie is expected to begin filming next week. You can get a glimpse of his performance as Alfred in the latest trailer for the film. The Irish-born actor starred in the critically acclaimed Calvary past year as well as the sci-fi actioner Edge Of Tomorrow.
