Jerry Jones is trying to talk everyone into Brandon Weeden
Here’s something that never occurred to me before now: all the criticism of Jerry Jones during his run with the Cowboys is something he’s embraced. Why?
Even tough Jones heaped high praise on backup quarterback Brandon Weeden for his performance against the Eagles, he wasn’t shy about letting everyone know the Cowboys are bringing in other options for the team. “It’s not our expectation at all” said Jones. “His passing motion and his arm, frankly, you won’t see a more gifted passer, power, accuracy, the entire aspect of it. If he can basically prepare, be the starting quarterback, come in and execute and keep his head right, then I feel good about Weeden”. Bill Barnwell of Grantland pointed out that since Weeden entered the league, he’s been the single worst pocket passer in the NFL based on QBR – not the best number for a QB with much less mobility than Romo. As a 29-year-old rookie in 2012, Weeden started 15 games, completing 57.4% of his passes for 3,385 yards, 14 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
“Certainly we think Weeden has really progressed”. The Cowboys enjoyed success in Jones’ early years, winning National Football League championships in 1992, 1993 and 1995, but they haven’t been back to the Super Bowl since, despite Jones’ lavish spending.
“I do think he has a poise and composure about him”, Coach Jason Garrett said, per ESPN. Romo is expected to miss up to 10 weeks, which puts the Cowboys in a tough spot, especially as a team with preseason Super Bowl aspirations.
Archer reports the Cowboys are leaning towards placing Romo on injured reserve/designated to return.
