Jesse Lingard: Manchester United’s draw against Chelsea feels like a defeat
Lingard has had a slow start to his United career. This season, Lingard looks fresh, fit and is starting to make that right wing berth his own. They also had more attempts at goal than Chelsea.
And Wright hailed United for their “incredible” efforts to bring players from the academy into the first-team.
Van Gaal’s charges travel to the Stadium of Light to face relegation-threatened Sunderland in the league on Saturday. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who also impressed, charged down the left-wing, receiving a pass from Juan Mata and hitting a good cross into the box. Silvestre often slotted in at centre half, whilst Heinze – a fans favourite in debut season – kicked up a fuss when he lost his place to Evra, and subsequently handed in a transfer request. They could kick-off at Bournemouth eight points behind unlikely pacesetters Leicester City so this is very much a must-win game for Arsene Wenger’s side.
“When you win and when you play good football, confidence grows”. He was an attacking threat, pressing high up – just like his predecessor Patrice Evra used to do.
His youth showed in United conceding the equaliser, however, as he failed to hold a defensive line and kept Diego Costa onside.
The game was entertaining.
Chelsea’s handball appeal was dismissed and United resumed the stronger. The Blues midfielder has proven to be one of the best long range sharpshooters in the Premier League and will be looking to trouble de Gea from a distance or setting up one of his teammates with a precise cross.
Both teams are drifting in 2016, and it shows.
“I stopped when I left Chelsea in 2007, for a few months, and now is the second time I stop in 15 or 16 years, so it is not a drama”. Daley Blind’s slip earlier in the move had allowed Costa to go free. “I think the last three or four games we’ve played really well”.
Since finding this out, Terry’s performances have been even better, and we should expect him to have another monster game against Louis van Gaal’s side, as he will be playing to change the consensus within the club’s hierarchy.
David De Gea, Chris Smalling, Morgan Schneiderlin, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney have been the only Reds players who can claim to have impressed on a regular basis this season, while others have disappointed.
Hiddink disagreed with his opposite number over the amount of time added on, saying: “No, besides in that instant, it lasted five or six minutes at least”.
“Its unbelievable – when you play against a team like Chelsea you have to reward yourself, and we could have scored after the first goal”.
United boss Van Gaal was visibly disappointed after his side dropped two points and he questioned the decision from the referee to play six minutes of stoppage time.
