Jessica Alba Powerful Anti-Gun Violence Message At Teen Choice Awards
– KARAI (@sebftmendess) August 1, 2016 Teen Choice blatantly exploited Christina Grimmie’s death to promote their show only to neglect her in their actual show.
The duo were great in their roles as hosts, and got into some insane shenanigans throughout the night but the height of it was when Cena and Justice entered the stage as presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump respectively.
Jessica Alba speaks out against gun violence with victims and the families of victims at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards.
During the show, Jessica Alba even came out to discuss recent deaths by shootings, and to push the #StopTheGunViolence hashtag, yet Christina was again not mentioned. Still, many took to social media to voice their displeasure that the Teen Choice Awards didn’t pay tribute to Grimmie, let alone acknowledge her once during the show.
The 24-year-old, who shot to fame in the film, beat John Boyega, her British co-star in the Star Wars reboot, to the title.
She was joined on stage by a group of teenagers whose loved ones were slain in shootings in San Bernardino, California, Newton, Connecticut, and Orlando, Florida. Her dance moves were on point and if you missed it, you can still watch the performance in all its glory.
The backlash amounted to more than the odd tweet – a Change.org petition titled “Request Teen Choice Awards & Fox formally apologize for disrespecting Christina Grimmie” had 288 supporters by Monday morning. “And tonight, Ne-Yo and I and all of us here and all of you watching need to do the same”. I have many times…so don’t waste your 20s. So don’t waste your 20s, they’re gonna be here before you know it and they will go fast. “It does, not just to you but also to the world and your generation who will some day inherit this world from old-timers like… me and Kobe”, Timberlake said, gesturing toward the retired basketball legend who introduced him.
