Jessica Jones: 11 Things From The Comic They Didn’t Show
I honestly didn’t care to watch “Jessica Jones” because I didn’t like “Daredevil” at all, but I’ll watch anything that has Ritter in it.
“Marvel’s Jessica Jones” is part of Marvel and Netflix’s line of superhero shows that also includes “Marvel’s Daredevil” starring Charlie Cox, “Marvel’s Luke Cage” and “Marvel’s Iron Fist”. Jessica Jones introduced Claire Temple (aka the Night Nurse, played by Rosario Dawson), which is about the only thing connecting these would be Defenders together so far.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s lineup of films and recent shows has initially given off the impression of being lighthearted fun that people of all ages can enjoy, and these have seen renowned success.
Krysten Ritter has been cast as the series leading lady, though you may also recognise her from Breaking Bad and The Bitch In Apartment 23. The series is darker narrative than other Marvel superhero series and deals with domestic and sexual abuse as well addiction of Jones and how she overcomes all that. Unfortunately for Trish, the eponymous protagonist dismissed it as something worn on Halloween or during kinky roleplay.
Second, defense attorney Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss, most famous for her role as Trinity in “The Matrix”) regularly hires Jessica as an investigator for cases. However, Jessica Jones is the most character-focused superhero show we have ever seen. Bringing in another superhero right at the start does slightly take away from Jessica’s uniqueness. Grab some of that leftover turkey this Thanksgiving and have a good marathon of Marvel’s Jessica Jones while avoiding having to answer what your plans are after graduation for the fifth time. These two superheroes are fighting the same battle, but they’re each doing it in their own way, and it doesn’t mean that one is more valued or more important than the other.
Here’s the video from IGN with Rosenberg talking about Jessica Jones. The nice little bonus, which only works if you were a child of the 90s, is that her voice constantly makes me think of what an older Daria would look like if she had powers, became an alcoholic and worked as a P.I.
The relationship between Jessica Jones and brooding bartender Luke Cage gives more insight into how humans with super powers keep those powers in check due to the events of the Avengers series. It’s barely even a Marvel show. She’s a powerful character with zero shit-taking capacity reserved for the criminals and clients she comes across, but can still be swiftly leveled by a flare-up of PTSD, showing just how serious her condition – and what Kilgrave did to cause her anguish – is. The writing revolves around how these characters interplay with one another and how people without abilities get caught up in their drama.
“They’ll [Marvel/Netflix] have to throw me kicking and screaming out of that building”. And unlike, say, “Gotham”, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel where viewers believe Jessica Jones can come out victorious. They handle Kilgrave excellent, allowing him to do some insane villainous things while keeping it out of an “R” rating.
