Jet Airways Bus Rams into Air India Plane at Kolkata Airport
Air India subsidiary Alliance Air’s flights to Silchar and Shillong were cancelled as the plane was grounded.
Airport director AK Sharma told NDTV: ‘He has said that after a night shift he had fallen asleep and deviated from his route’. The incident took place around 6.30 pm at Bay No. 28 When the Mumbai-Hyderabad flight AI 619 began, the technician who was apparently standing close to the plane’s engine, got sucked inside the engine and died instantly. According to officials at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose global airport here, the plane was parked at Bay 32 and preparing to leave for Silchar when the driver of the Jet Airways bus lost control of the vehicle.
However, no casualties have been reported in the freaky accident since no passengers were present in the aircraft and the shuttle bus.
Meanwhile, Jet Airways spokesperson said a coach transporting its cabin crew “accidently collided with a stationary aircraft of another airline”.
Leading Indian airline Jet Airways on Wednesday announced special promotional fares available only on its three booking platforms. A medical exam revealed that the driver was not drunk or on drugs. The same is valid only for one way and return flight journeys, and is not available on multi-city bookings.
Kolkata airport authority are investigating the matter.
Momin was detained for questioning and was arrested under Sections 279 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code which are bailable offences, said Bidhannagar police commissionerate’s additional deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Shivani Tiwari.
