Jet’s engine burst into flames on Florida runway
As the National Transportation Safety Board investigates what caused a Dynamic Airways jet to catch fire at Fort Lauderdale global Airport, airport officials are releasing new details about the Florida taxiway blaze that left about 20 people injured. Repairs are ongoing and should be completed by Friday evening or Saturday. Still, no initial explanation was given for the fire beyond “flight crew as well as airport personnel noticed engine problem during taxiing and acted according to emergency procedures”. One person was seriously injured.
A fire on a South Florida plane bound for Venezuela resulted in a massive evacuation of the plane, with twenty-two of its passengers being taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Andres Gallegos said he was one of the first passengers to use the chutes to evacuate.
“I heard a loud bang”.
The FAA said that the plane had not had any previous issues. “The fire intensifies and you don’t know what system or structure it’s going to burn through”.
The Dynamic Airways Boeing 767 was on the runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood global Airport, preparing for departure to Venezuela.
The airline’s operations director, Don Dodson, said the most serious injury came as a passenger was running across the ramp after exiting the aircraft.
Once inside the airport, passengers expressed frustration, saying they’d been held in a room for more than an hour and had not heard from the airline.
Dynamic global Airways LLC is a US Certificated FAR PART 121 AIR CARRIER providing safe, affordable, long haul, point-to-point air service. It operates seven 767s. Dynamic says on its website that its Boeing 767s can accommodate up to 250 people.
Passengers on another plane on the runway recorded the fire and posted video to Twitter showing plumes of thick black smoke coming from the plane.
And once flames erupted, did everything go as it should to safely get the 101 people off the plane?
Airline officials said the onboard fire extinguishing fluid was not enough to put out the fire.
The airport closed briefly after the fire.
The damaged aircraft was removed from the taxiway near Terminal 1 late Thursday night and relocated to the western portion of the airport.
Dynamic Airways Flight 405 was scheduled to depart Fort Lauderdale at 12:30 p.m. for Caracas. But these smaller companies have struggled to acquire replacement parts for their planes because of the economic crisis that has plagued that country for the past year and a half, resulting in exorbitantly high inflation rates.
