JetBlue Aims for Free Wi-Fi on All Planes by Fall 2016
Add in free Wi-Fi Internet service, and the airline is striking the right chord with travelers on a tight budget.
The airline said in a statement Wednesday they expect the complete installation of Fly-Fi on the entire JetBlue fleet by the fall of 2016.
While airlines continue to make a business of nickel and diming customers for just about everything from checked luggage to leg room (and you will be uncomfortable regardless), JetBlue has announced a move toward a more humane air travel experience: free high-speed Wi-Fi on all of its planes.
“Our Fly-Fi model has proven that there is a way to offer customers more without adding extra costs to their travel”, Perryadds. The carrier has also inked agreements with Major League Baseball and the Wall Street Journal to provide additional streaming content.
With speeds up to 20 mbps per device, Fly-Fi has enabled JetBlue to offer more in-flight entertainment than any other United States airline. Hopefully JetBlue’s new service will steer clear of such troubles. Passengers will be able to access The Hub with their laptops, smartphones, or tablets. At least passengers on board JetBlue will remain assured of free internet.
JetBlue’s first connected Embraer E190 aircraft, equipped with the “Fly-Fi” in-flight Internet kit, took its inaugural flight -from Boston to Washington-Dulles – this week.
JetBlue is and a leading carrier in Boston, New York, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Los Angeles (Long Beach), Orlando, and San Juan and carries more than 32 million customers a year to 91 cities in the US, Caribbean, and Latin America with an average of 875 daily flights. For one thing, Virgin America is still in the process of rolling out the ViaSat satellite-based Internet system, so not every aircraft will have the ability to access Netflix.
Earlier this year, it indicated its plan to team up with e-commerce giant Amazon to provide streaming service to Amazon Prime consumers free of charge.
