Jets Basically Threw Dont’a Hightower A Birthday Party On Free-Agent Visit
The Patriots appear to have valued Hightower quite a bit, but they did let him test free agency.
In recent days, the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets have expressed interest in Hightower. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team did not disclose details of the visit.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the AFC East rivals are Hightower’s top suitors right now.
Something changed with their initial outlook on Hightower, because ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted later Monday morning that the Steelers scheduled a visit with Hightower this week.
It was reported earlier Monday that various teams, including the Titans, are not expecting Hightower to leave the Patriots.
Hightower is one of the best players still available in free agency and would be a huge acquisition for the Jets.
Hightower reportedly is seeking between $10-13 million per year.
Although reports say Hightower may return to New England, nothing is set in stone. NY has plenty of cap space to get a deal done, but so does New England. “In 67 career regular-season games, the 6’3”, 265-pounder has registered 372 tackles, 17 sacks and 12 PDs along with 3 FR and 2 FF.
Hightower played his college ball at Alabama and was selected by the Pats with the No. 25 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The next play, Malcolm Butler made his famed Super Bowl-winning interception of Russell Wilson.
Resigning with the New England Patriots would definitely make sense for Dont’a Hightower. If they bring him in, it could spell the end of David Harris’ time with the team.
This year’s National Football League free agent open season is just barely a week old and it’s already pretty clear that the New England Patriots are the real the winners in this off season of wheeling and dealing.
