Jets’ Darrelle Revis still in concussion protocol, likely out vs. Giants
“It’s a step forward”. As much as the Jets are concerned about covering Beckham, I think the Giants should be just as concerned about trying to protect Manning behind that ever-shifting offensive line.
Marcus Williams, Revis’ backup, is also uncertain with a sprained knee. But even with two titles, there is still the feeling the Giants have underachieved – not that they could have won another Super Bowl, but that they could have made the playoffs two or three more times and won another few playoff games. Bowles will have to be careful to give safety help to Cromartie on every play because at this point in Cromartie’s career he is not capable of handling Beckham one on one.
The Jets could use a combination of Buster Skrine, Darrin Walls, Dexter McDougle and Dee Milliner in Revis’ spot.
Matching up veteran Antonio Cromartie on Beckham is one option but there are fears that might be a mismatch in Beckham’s factor. “They have some talented DBs over there in their secondary”. “We practice everybody there, anyway”. Despite the injuries on the right side of the offensive line, Pugh is expected to remain at left guard for Sunday’s game.
“It’s going to be real close”, Bowles said.
Earlier this week, Jason Pierre-Paul talked about putting his right hand on the ground for the first time since his accident.
Last Sunday in a loss at the Redskins that knocked Big Blue out of first place alone, Eli had his poorest game this season, with three interceptions and three sacks.
Jets passing game: Last week Ryan Fitzpatrick had one of his best games of the season throwing for 277 yards and 4 TDs. The Jets are taking on Odell Beckham Jr. without Darrelle Revis. Bowles had said Thursday that Williams would likely be a game-time decision, but says Friday that he’s skeptical the cornerback will be able to play (see full story). But they did it against the Dolphins, who stink on ice, so forget I mentioned it. Their best strategy, even without Revis, is to double Beckham. “Great players like that always challenge your game plan-wise”.
HURTING LINEBACKERS: Second-year linebacker Devon Kennard has been the Giants’ best player on defense and he comes into the game battling a hamstring injury. His season started off with wrist surgery that landed him on injured reserve.
“They’re not coming in raw”, Bowles said of the group.
“I feel OK”, he said Friday. “But there are guys in front of him that are game-ready, too, so he’s just got to wait his turn”.
“Life is all about opportunities, and how you seize them and make the majority”, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said. “No, kind of just, ‘Get lined up, let’s play some football, ‘ ” Manning said.
The Giants hope RB Shane Vereen continues his Jets-killing ways.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. In recent years, a game between the Jets and Giants would be for the braggin’ rights in the NY metropolitan area.
