Jets’ Eric Decker: Listed as probable for Week 7
Ivory has been the engine that makes it go while wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker have both chipped in with valuable contributions.
Ridley is now on the physically unable to perform list, and coach Todd Bowles said the team would make a decision on him either later Friday or Saturday. That probably partly explains why he spent Friday raving over the chemistry in the Jets’ locker room, a team-first, all-in attitude he said he never has experienced before.
Marshall said when he got traded to Miami from Denver – where he was suspended for the 2009 finale – he “didn’t get it”. “It’s just a great spirit in this locker room”. A total of 15 takeaways thus far is very impressive compared to last year’s 13, although that number may not change against a quarterback like Tom Brady.
Then Marshall acknowledged his own role in that fragmenting.
“When you got two offenses, one offense that can run and our offense is good at moving the ball, sometimes that takes up clock, and there might not be many possessions in the game”, McCourty said. That’s the kind of plays that those guys are capable of making and he gives them the chance to do that. It’s a special locker room.
Marshall did note that he’s been a part of close locker rooms before. Marshall has 37 catches for 511 yards and 4 TDs, putting him on pace to have the best season of his career at age 31. If it weren’t for fumbles and a special teams lapse at the end of the game, the Jets could’ve pitched a shutout. There’s a lot of new pieces here, and that’s going to take time, to build that type of chemistry. “This season we are starting to see what he can do with an extended run and it’s pretty special”.
“You lose two players at any position, on any team, that’s an issue”. There’s no egos. There’s no superstars. “It’s just everyone being themselves and being accepted”. He sees guys at the facility at 5 a.m., meeting with coaches. I’m just proud to be a part of it. That’s the coolest part: No one is running around talking about taking over the world.
Who would’ve thought that the New York Jets would be sitting at 4-1 through the first six weeks? Marshall understands that. But there are specific encouraging things he notices about this group of players.
“I do feel fine to play, ” he said after practice. “It shows that he cares”. That image stuck with Marshall.
“It definitely weighs on me and my family”, said Fitzpatrick. “I don’t think our team needs to be pushed, but it is inspiring seeing your stars working the hardest”. The question now is, if this good start for “Gang Green” is sustainable throughout the rest of the season and the team can defy the odds to achieve a playoff berth. He had a touchdown in all but one contest and has eclipsed 100 yards receiving in four out of five games. Today’s player in the spotlight is cornerback Buster Skrine.
