Jets’ Revis doesn’t practice, status uncertain
Eagles RB DeMarco Murray’s status uncertain after leaving practice Wednesday with hamstring injury. The Eagles are coming off of a disheartening 20-10 defeat at the hands of the Bryantless and partially Romoless Cowboys. Sunday will be the first time Chip Kelly coaches against the Jets in the regular season. It makes you wonder how things would have turned out had the Eagles made him their defensive coordinator in 2011 instead of Juan Castillo. Undoubtedly, one of those surprises has been the start by none other than the New York Jets. It will be on a short week, as the Jets defeated the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football. This could be a big-time trap game for the Jets.
However, should this team continue to go on a roll as the season moves along here, this is a stat that might be changing sooner rather than later. Anytime you lose a heck of a player you’re not going to be the same, but we have a bunch of guys that can go out there and play.
The wins have come with some consequences. Even with a loss to an NFC team that really doesn’t impact the playoff picture, the Jets would still be in good shape with Miami and Washington up next.
All three are listed as questionable on the latest injury report. Who steps up against Fletcher Cox on the OL? That’s good news for Brandon Marshall, who should get as many targets as he can handle against an Eagles secondary led by slow-starter Byron Maxwell. September. A victory in each of those games and you could be looking at an undefeated showdown against those same Patriots on October 25. Not only have the Jets won both of their first two games, they did so in commanding fashion. Teams know there isn’t a chance in hell Sam Bradford keeps it. Combined with the desperation that the Eagles should be feeling, I have a feeling that the Eagles break into the win column this week.
“We’ll see”, Revis said. Marshall has been doubled for the majority of this season anyways and he has still been dominant. As for Fitzpatrick it should be a similar mindset for him on Sunday. The way the Jets’ defense is playing, it might not even matter. But, Bowles said, “from the core, overall offense, he looks fine”. This team still has high expectations for this season, is it time to rethink them? The Eagles have four sacks this season. He played 29 games with the Patriots, recording 55 tackles, three interceptions, and 14 pass deflections. They tallied five total turnovers and now have ten takeaways on the year. Next up is their first NFC opponent of the year in the Philadelphia Eagles. Jordan Matthews has also been unimpressive.
Revis is hardly the only one benefiting from the early season turnover party. The Jets have to be careful though because this offense could breakout at any moment.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Smith is now battling Bryce Petty for the backup spot as he could be activated for Week 3 play against the Philadelphia Eagles. Our defense needs to lock in and prepare for what could be a tough game against this group on Sunday.
If Smith plays, “he may be on a pitch count”, to limit the number of snaps he receives in the game, Bowles said. If the Eagles wanna race up and down the field and put their defense back on out there, let them. “I’ll have to see as the week goes forward”.
An MRI on Tuesday revealed the wide receiver has a sprain, but not structural or ligament damage, and coach Todd Bowles said Decker is “day to day”. He said Thursday that he wouldn’t play if he felt he was unable to be productive. “I received the story line from the mother”. Davis and Harris are the most important though because they will be responsible for keeping the Eagles running backs contained. Last week, I gave the edge to the Colts because of Andrew Luck.
So far the season for Miami has not gone to play for the staff, team, and fans. They’d better hope so, because they’ll have to deal with one of the best defenses in the league this week. “They’re both mega-competitors”. However, a repeat performance will be more hard, considering the Eagles will be missing some key pieces.
Running back Stevan Ridley rushed for 2,817 yards and 22 touchdowns during his 52 games with New England.
