Jets’ Richardson Busted For Resisting Arrest Following Alleged Street Racing
New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson was charged with resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in Missouri on July 14.
Richardson was arrested July 14 in St. Charles County, Mo., after a police officer saw him racing another vehicle on I-64 at speeds up to 143 miles per hour in his Bentley Silver Spur. When police attempted to pull Richardson over, he allegedly accelerated and tried to avoid police, shutting his lights off and blowing several traffic lights in the process. A fully loaded semi-automatic handgun was found underneath the driver’s side floor mat, and the officer said the vehicle smelled of marijuana.
Two other men and a 12-year-old boy were in the auto with Richardson at the time of the incident. He is scheduled to appear in court in Missouri on October 27, two days following New York’s game against the New England Patriots.
Now Richardson will already be riding pine when the season starts, missing the first four games while serving a suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy for you guessed it, marijuana.
Statement of probable cause regarding Sheldon Richardson’s arrest on a variety of charges.
Per Lohmar, via, Schlinkmann, resisting arrest is a misdemeanor that carries a potential penalty of up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. Reports indicated he tested positive for marijuana.
“I apologized to my teammates and my organization and I told them they don’t have to worry about my name being in the news again”, Richardson said of the drug suspension.
“I take full accountability for my actions”. Speaking at the first day of Jets training-camp practice, Richardson said he was “not a dope fiend”. “It’s just that simple, bro”.
