Jets: Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain starting QB
The Jets coach reiterated Tuesday that Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain his starting quarterback, even after Smith returns from injury. “If Geno has a grasp of everything, and he looks good, and we feel good about it, we’ll go with Geno”.
Ryan is our starting quarterback right now. “We’ll go forward from there”.
Geno Smith, who was on track to be the Jets’ starting quarterback before a teammate punched him last month and broke his jaw, fully participated in practice Wednesday for the first time since linebacker IK Enemkpali struck him.
After today’s news, not only has Smith lost his job in New York, he may be hard-pressed to become a starter with another team in the future. Ryan Fitzpatrick has led the Jets to a 2-0 record, so there’s no need for change.
Smith expressed confidence in his ability to lead the offense but he also acknowledged, “I’m in a different position now, so you’ve got to be realistic about things”. But the Jets also missed some chances; they could’ve done a better job of exploiting a secondary that was missing its three top corners for most of the game.
Wide receiver Preston Parker was released by the New York Giants, who signed defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.
He was full speed, but we don’t want to throw Devin in as soon as he got back to practice.
New York is Fitzpatrick’s sixth team, and he’s started multiple games for every one.
The mind-numbing stat serves as a reminder as to how very bad and inconsistent the play has been for the Jets under center for the better part of a decade.
Perhaps the most telling bit of evidence to suggest that the Jets are going to be around for the long haul is Bowles, a first-year head coach so gifted with knowledge, meticulous in his preparation and grounded in his sense of self he’s already endeared himself to a fan base usually very short on patience.
The Jets stand at 2-0 after a 31-10 win over the Cleveland Browns and then a 20-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees received a supporting second opinion on his bruised right shoulder and could play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. “When you haven’t read the defenses and set the fronts and called out blitz protections, that takes a minute”.
“We just have to be able to stay on the field”, Fitzpatrick said.
On if Smith will get any of the first team reps in practice once he returns… Decker is day to day after spraining his knee against the Colts on Monday, though he hasn’t been ruled out. “I’m still waiting for that one to come back”.
