Jets’ Sheldon Richardson, already suspended, arrested at gunpoint
The coach and the rest of the team were disappointed by the defensive lineman’s arrest – and stunned that Richardson didn’t disclose it to the team.
The subsequent arrest occurred less than two weeks after the league announced Richardson’s four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Bowles said Thursday he thought Willie Colon (left knee) might be the quickest of the three Active/PUP list players to return to action. “Clearly, he needs some help”.
An NFL spokesman said: “The league is aware of the situation and is looking into the charges levied against Richardson”. “[It was] a wake-up call”.
While Maccagnan and the Jets were very disappointed by the latest incident, Richardson will remain with the team and practice until his suspension starts at the beginning of the regular season. I am grateful and grateful for that. “I’m thankful and grateful for that”.
According to the police report, Richardson was clocked driving as fast as 143 miles per hour on Interstate 64 near his home in St. Louis.
Richardson, whom Lohmar said didn’t have a prior criminal record, faces up to a year in prison and up to $1,000 in fines for resisting arrest.
A fully loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the driver’s side floor mat, and police detected a “very strong odor” of burned marijuana coming from the vehicle and the passengers, according a probable cause statement.
The thought process was to keep things consistent with Sheldon, Maccagnan said, and surround him with a good environment, which hopefully can be helpful for him and well go from there..
Richardson stated, “It is a authorized matter, and it is ongoing, so I cannot actually say an excessive amount of about that night time”. “Still clean. If you believe it or not, that’s on you”.
“Once more, I am not fearful about him with the ability to get again on the sector”.
It has been a tough year for Richardson, as the former Pro Bowler has been demoted to second string.
Sheldon Richardson is making a solid run at becoming one of the dumber athletes around.
“It’s disappointing”, Bowles said. “If it happens two times in that kind of time span, you”re more anxious about Sheldon the man as opposed to Sheldon the player. Right now I’m just anxious about getting him help. I am not even apprehensive concerning the soccer participant.
Following the first practice of training camp before news of the incident broke out on Thursday, Richardson explained to reporters his reasons for his four-game suspension. The fact that Richardson was hiding this sort of incident from the organization is grounds for his release alone, but there’s more to the story. The Jets have a surplus of talented defensive linemen and could look to trade him in the offseason.
Speaking to reporters when camp opened, Richardson said, “I take full accountability for my actions”.
