Jets sign kicker Randy Bullock, place Nick Folk on injured reserve
He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2012 draft. He will take over as the Jets’ kicker beginning Thursday against the Bills – a team that limited opposing kickers to just six field goal attempts and 12 extra-point attempts over its last six games.
Update: NJ.com reports that Jets K Nick Folk will miss at least 4 weeks. Bullock was released after missing two kicks against the Buccaneers in Week Three and also missed an extra point in the season opener.
Folk said there is no tear or structural damage in his quad but the injury is considered a Grade 1 strain to one of the most important muscles for kicking.
The NY Jets have signed former Houston Texans kicker Randy Bullock to replace Nick Folk, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
The Jets worked out four kickers today.
Folk said he heard a “pop” in his leg, but didn’t think at first that the injury was as serious as it is.
Folk injured his right quadriceps during warmups before the win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
The main focus for Bullock leading up to the game will be working with long snapper Tanner Purdum and punter Ryan Quigley, the holder on field goals.
Folk is signed through 2017 and was having a good season, so he’ll likely be back with the Jets come 2016. He has made 13 of 16 field goals this season (81.3 percent), which is slightly better than his career average.
