Jetstar, Virgin cancel Bali flights
Virgin Australia and Jetstar have cancelled all flights in and out of Bali as volcanic ash spewing from the Mount Raung volcano again plays havoc with travel.
Jetstar will make a decision on its Bali-bound flights this morning.
“Jetstar has cancelled all flights in and out of Bali for the rest of the day”, the airline said. “There are around 13 confirmed flight cancellations today”, said Shivley S, a spokesperson for airport operator Angkasa Pura I.
The airline said it planned to schedule additional flights once the conditions improve.
Duty Forecaster at the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, Grace Legge, told the ABC ash plumes were not blowing over Bali at the moment, but there could be an aviation hazard later today. Its says the winds in the area remain highly unpredictable and last night volcanic ash was pushed back toward the airport.
“It can become basically large chunks of glass nearly”.
Earlier this month thousands of holidaymakers were stranded when Mt Raung erupted.
The cancellations of the flights serving routes between Bali and several cities in Australia, such as Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, left hundreds of passengers stranded at the airport.
