Jewish Holiday Of Passover Begins Monday At Sundown
Central to Passover is the Seder meal, typically observed in Jewish homes on the first night of Passover. This year, Passover ends on April 18. “This is the foundation of the Jewish people which has stood the test of time”.
Before the war, celebrants would have traditionally marked the holiday with a seder – the ritual meal – at home and the central task of cleansing the home of any trace of bread other than the unleavened matzo that plays a key part in both the Passover story and the celebratory meal.
Ostensibly a celebration and commemoration of the supposed liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt, Passover is in reality an ugly reminder that religion poisons everything.
Ivanka Trump did tweet out a Passover photo, though it didn’t say where she was or include anyone else in the photo besides her immediate family.
Titled “The Inconvenient Ten Plagues“, the parable is accompanied by cartoon imagery of a pharaoh that is unmistakably Trump, complete with golden hair and signature pursed lips. But one of them is: Do not oppress the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
God is said to have told Moses to tell the Israelites to paint lamb’s blood on their doorposts.
Although she said she has been regularly attending services at the Jewish center since August 2016, this will be her first Seder with the synagogue. This sign meant the angel of the Lord would “pass over” that household, and not strike down their first-born.
In September 2000, a visit to the flashpoint religious site by late Israeli politician Ariel Sharon sparked what later became known as the “Second Intifada”, a popular Palestinian uprising in which thousands of people were killed.
In the midst of this grave night, the Israelites make their escape from Egypt.
“We speak about the coming days when Elijah will come back and tell us about the coming of the great Messianic times when all will be free and all will be able to live in peace and harmony”.
The seder, which reportedly took place in the Indian Treaty Room of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, included kosher meals being served to guests. Once they reached the Red Sea, the Jews feared they were trapped. We are commanded to eat matzah, flat bread that is not given time to rise when baking. They are covered because of possibly having been exposed to non-Passover cooking during the year, Zalman Liberow (right) and his mother, Zelda Liberow, were busy on Monday afternoon to prepare for their Passover meal.
Even most assimilated Jews participate in a Passover seder.
While the story of Passover continues to resonate for the Jewish community, so do its traditions.
People celebrating Passover may abstain from eating leavened bread and eat Matzo, which is a kind of unleavened bread, instead. Based on the Haggadah – the textual guide to the night – one participant is selected to preside over the seder, recounting the story of the Jewish people – from the nation’s bondage in Egypt through the Holocaust – with song, food and stories. Children will ask questions and everyone will discuss the story.
