JFK terminal evacuated after report of shots fired
Police evacuated a terminal at New York’s JFK airport Sunday night, after unconfirmed reports of gunshots, according to multiple media reports.
Gunfire is reported to have ceased, but eyewitnesses report a “massive police presence” still on the scene.
Sky’s US Correspondent Hannah Thomas-Peter, in NY, said: “The NYPD have told me that nobody is in custody and no injuries have been reported”.
No other information was immediately available. “The terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution”, the Port Authority said in a statement.
The Port Authority Police Department called in the NYPD to assist in the investigation, cops said.
Police searched and cleared all terminals just before midnight, but did not find anything. Flights had already been delayed as a result of thunderstorms.
However, the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey, which operates the airport, said no shells had been found.
There are no reports of any incident ongoing there.
They are still searching the terminal for the possible armed person. You can see the photo above. There are no reported injuries or arrests at this time, we have no actual confirmation of shots fired.
“We were previously told to get on the floor and take cover behind any and everything we could find”, said Pipkin.
On Twitter, users said their flights to JFK were being diverted while those whose planes had already landed said they were not allowed to disembark.
