Ji talks to ‘Beauty and the Beast’ actresses
Director Bill Condon, who directed “Dreamgirls”, has created a stunning, beautiful, inclusive movie that is ultimately about a guy and a girl. But not everyone agrees.
However, a spokesperson did not specify whether Disney was included in its decision to call attention to the “Beauty and the Beast” premiere.
“I’m not used to being an intimidating presence, but I think the composer was a little scary to her so we made sure she had her own vocal coach”, Menken said. Speaking of Gaston: I’d be mistaken if I didn’t say that LeFou (Josh Gad) – his air headed yes-man – was absolutely hilarious.
The remake was entertaining, charming and witty. Screenwriters Evan Spiliotopoulos and Stephen Chbosky give the characters and the plot more depth. Remember that this is not exactly the same as the original (if that’s what you are expecting) and the more you compare the two, the less you will enjoy this version. “But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie”.
Of course, it’s understandable that people might be wary of the actor playing Belle. We suggest you don’t try this at home, no matter how fabulous the end result was.
Luke Evans brings a deliciously sinister quality to Gaston (and it helps that Gaston has all the best songs in the film). Because, honestly, Emma Watson’s Belle may be slightly more feminist, but she isn’t burning her bra outside some poor, provincial Planned Parenthood. Dan Stevens portrays the Beast as a lonely, but strong soul. They step out onto the crosswalk to perform the movie’s musical numbers while the traffic light is red. Ian McKellen! Emma Thompson! – together in the flesh. McDonald as Madame Garderobe needs lessons in fashion and Tucci as Cadenza plays the ivories beautifully.
Just like Belle, the Beast’s mother passed away when he was still very young.
Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff – among them Cogsworth the clock, Lumière the candlestick, Plumette the feather duster, Mrs Potts the teapot, and her son Chip the teacup. He asked if she would recommend kidnapping as a good dating strategy. Alan Menken, who wrote the original songs with Howard Ashman, provided the score and wrote three new songs with Tim Rice.
This is not the first time that the show pulled off such a performance.
And, of course, the special effects and the scenery were attractive.
As I briefly mentioned, Beast’s conflicted motivations were handled really nicely with this remake. I have seen my children and now grandchildren embrace it lovingly and iconically still watch it on Blu-ray to this day. “For some more movie fun, ask me something about Belle”. But, fan or not, it is hard not to be charmed by the dazzling world of Beauty and the Beast.
