Jill Stein Aims For Recount In Three States Trump Won
The billionaire businessman is set to become U.S. president on January 20 next year after his shock United States election victory earlier this month.
Wednesday afternoon, Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein announced an effort to raise .5 million by Friday afternoon to pay for recounts in the three states.
Unofficial election results indicate Republican Donald Trump won 290 electoral votes to 232 for Democrat Hillary Clinton, although Clinton won the popular vote almost 64 million to 62.1 million.
Trump won Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. The first deadline to appeal for a recount comes on Friday in Wisconsin, followed by Pennsylvania Nov. 28 and MI on Nov. 30.

A petition on Change.org calling for some members of the Electoral College to ignore their states’ vote, and cast their ballots in favor of Clinton on December 19-the date when the presidency will be cemented. The effort is just the latest dive into the mechanics of American democracy by Trump’s opponents, on the left and right, and is astronomically unlikely to the point of being virtually impossible. Protesters have argued that Clinton won the popular vote, and should be president, despite losing the Electoral College.
Several reports say a group of computer scientists is privately lobbying the Clinton campaign to challenge the election results. Admiral Michael Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency, specifically said that Russia tried to interfere with the election by leaking information like the DNC emails, and there are some who believe that the Russian government also tried to directly influence the results by hacking voting systems.
Stein reached her $2.5 million goal at 2:50am Eastern Time on Thanksgiving day (Nov. 24). According to a Clinton aide, they are not yet commenting publicly on the deliberations around the recount.
Whedon urged his followers on Twitter to demand recounts.
There are also deadlines of Monday in Pennsylvania and next Wednesday in MI.
The filing deadlines are quickly approaching in each of the three states where the Green Party wants to see recounts.
According to the report, the machines could have cost her as many as 30,000 votes in Wisconsin – a state she lost by 27,000 votes.
Trump said he has “an open mind” toward the worldwide treaty on fighting global warming, a pact he previously called outdated and unnecessary.
Many election experts have called for routine post-election audits created to boost public confidence in vote outcomes, by guarding against both tampering and natural vote-counting mistakes. He hasn’t held a news conference since his election and on Tuesday sent out a video news release about some of his plans upon taking office.
