Jim Carrey sued, accused of supplying ex-girlfriend with fatal drugs
Jim Carrey was sued Monday for wrongful death by the family of his late girlfriend Cathriona White, with the woman’s estranged husband claiming the actor illegally obtained and provided the prescription medications that led to her death a year ago.
Burton alleges that the actor purchased the drugs under the bogus name “Arthur King” and then “took steps to hide and obfuscate his involvement and culpability” after White’s death.
Her body was found on September 28 near pill bottles bearing the name “Arthur King”.
Burton’s lawsuit claims that after her death, Carrey attempted to “conceal and obfuscate his involvement and culpability in Ms”. The suit specifically accuses Carrey of obtaining the drugs under the name Arthur King before passing them to White, asserting that her resulting death should have been “predictable and foreseeable” given her alleged history of depression and a previous suicide attempt.
Page 6 indicates that Burton also states that Carrey reneged on his promise to pay for White’s funeral in her native country of Ireland. White, who was a makeup artist, met Carrey on a film set in 2012. White allegedly left a suicide note addressed to Carrey.
According to the New York Post, the suit says Carrey had access to illegal drugs because of his wealth and celebrity status.
The lawsuit stated a combination of percocet, ambien and propranolol were found is her system. “I’ve spent three days now in disbelief that you’re not here”, she wrote.
Carrey had surveillance cameras on the home where White stayed and was able to remotely keep track of her comings and goings. “I could, I just don’t have the will at this time”.
According the lawsuit, Carrey sent a “bogus text message” a few days after White’s death.
Upon White’s death last September, Carrey released a statement expressing sympathy for the family during their time of tragedy.
In previous reports, it was claimed Cathriona had taken a mix of prescription drugs, and that Carrey had texted her the night before she died asking if she knew where missing painkillers prescribed to him went.
Carrey, 54, did not immediately respond to the civil suit.
