Jim Furyk: Jim Furyk’s timetable to return now unknown
Furyk is No. 9 in the world and has been a mainstay on American teams, having played every Ryder or Presidents Cup from 1997-2012. The 2015 event will take place at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, South Korea, October 8-11.
“My heart goes out to Jim because I know how much the Presidents Cup means to him”, Holmes said. The 45-year-old tends to disappear in the last quarter of the calendar year anyway, so it might have been a few months before he competed again even if he didn’t automatically qualifying for the team.
“Jim is still testing his wrist”, Haas said.
Jim Furyk has withdrawn from next week’s Presidents Cup due to injury and has been replaced in the United States team by JB Holmes. The Presidents Cup starts Thursday in South Korea.
Jay Haas made the announcement on Friday with the tournament on deck next week. In eight previous Presidents Cup appearances, he has a 20-10-3 record. Not only did Koepka have the better season overall than Koepka did, but many say that the Presidents Cup team should be a way to train younger players to prepare them for the Ryder Cup, which the USA has lost in the past three matches.
“He has plane reservations, his clothing is being readied, if that happens”, Haas said, refusing to divulge the player’s identity.
“J.B.is excited for the opportunity and will be ready to play”, Haas said. “I am so excited for this honor and look forward to joining my great teammates in Korea”. “He’s had two top 10s to end the FedEx Cup Playoffs, so he’s playing well and he’ll be a good fit”.
