Jim McNally, John Jastremski will be reinstated by Patriots this week
The fallout from the New England Patriots’ deflated ball controversy isn’t over just yet.
The next step in the Patriots’ quest to have accused Deflategate participants John Jastremski and Jim McNally reinstated could be a meeting with NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent, NFL Network reported Sunday.
The star quarterback was suspended four games by the National Football League, but U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman dismissed that penalty in a ruling last week. Meanwhile, Pro Football Talk reports that there is no discipline coming.
Former assistant equipment manager and full-time employee John Jastremski and former officials locker room attendant Jim McNally, a part-time employee, will reportedly have new roles when they return to the Patriots, although those haven’t yet been announced.
The Patriots formally requested last week that the league begin that process, but apparently it won’t be as simple as Vincent letting them off with time served.
The employees suspended amid the Deflategate controversy will not face any additional discipline for their roles in the matter, according to The Boston Globe. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Wednesday that the league is reviewing the request. Sources now say that reinstatement would have to include a face-to-face meeting with Vincent. This case won’t be re-examined. In the report, McNally refers to himself as “The Deflator” while exchanging text messages with Jastremski.
