Jimmy Carter on My Mind: Some thoughts from a cancer survivor
Jimmy Carter told a press conference he called on the morning of the day he would have the first radiation treatment on the cancer in his brain, “I’d like for the last guinea worm to die before I do”.
Following his Iowa remarks about Carter, Cruz smirked, declared that he would never be bound by your petty politically correct assumptions again, then kicked a disabled orphan and broke the neck of an adorable puppy, both of whom he described as worthless takers. When the couple is in Plains, Carter frequently teaches a Sunday School class before services at Maranatha Baptist Church. “I do have a deep religious faith, which I’m very grateful for”. Lichtenfeld said that while Carter’s diagnosis is serious, he has actually fared better than others with metastatic melanoma who can have large lesions on the liver or brain that greatly impair their lives. Doctors removed about a tenth of his liver during the surgery, he said.
Carter received targeted radiation therapy Thursday, aimed at four small tumors in his brain. “You know the great thing about the state of Iowa is, I’m pretty sure y’all define gun control the same way we do in Texas – hitting what you aim at”.
During a segment on Thursday’s The Last Word about Jimmy Carter’s cancer diagnosis, MSNBC national correspondent Joy Reid complained that voters rejected “Carter’s decency and goodness” in the 1980 presidential election in favor of the “bluster” possessed by “cowboy” Ronald Reagan. Treatments for melanoma have improved tremendously recently, and Carter’s prospects are good even at the age of 90, Curran said.
Carter said he will get two types of treatment – focused radiation to the tumors in his brain and a drug aimed at boosting his immune system.
A native of tiny Plains, Georgia, he rebuilt his career as a humanitarian, establishing the Carter Center, focused on global issues, including health care and democracy.
Gerald Rafshoon, who ran Carter’s political advertising campaigns, said a president’s legacy is determined by “what he can accomplish for the future”.
For years, he’s treated melanoma patients – and for years, there wasn’t much he could offer them, he said. You could read Carter energy speeches, including the misnamed malaise speech from ’79 and it reads like a Thomas Friedman column today and thirdly of all, 36 years we have had enduring peace in the Middle East and Israel’s continued existence is the bedrock there as it’s negotiated by Jimmy Carter, peace with Egypt. “But now he is clearly, having spoken with the doctors, he understands that there’s a period of time and he’s going to be able to go catch some fish, and hopefully catch more of his grandkids’ baseball games”. Events will surely arise that will cause many more of us to behave like adults.
Carter served in submarines in the Navy and spent years as a peanut farmer before running for office, becoming a state senator and Georgia governor.
“There has been a large response to President Carter’s teachings”.
The 90-year-old has been recognized for contributions that have continued long since his departure from the White House in 1981. There were a few highs, like the Camp David Accords, and some very low lows, the Iran Hostage Crisis comes to mind, and President Carter became a one-term president. Carter will receive it through an IV four times at three-week intervals, according to a statement from the Carter Center.
