Jimmy Carter says his cancer is gone
A recent MRI showing no cancer on Jimmy Carter’s brain is “very positive” news for the former president but will not end his medical treatment, doctors said. Johnson said that scanning is carried out every three months for first year or two after a patient’s test results do not show cancer.
In his announcement in August, the former President said he was having a portion of his liver removed, and was starting treatment with Keytruda, a “targeted therapy” drug which was tested at the START Center. Carter says he will continue taking his regular 3-week immunotherapy treatments of the cancer drug pembrolizuma, which has shown promise in the treatment of melanoma.

“They didn’t find any cancer at all”, Carter said Sunday.

While Carter only mentioned a brain scan, any other scans that his doctors might have performed have not been made clear.
“His greatest risk was that he was going to get disease developed in new locations, but seemingly that hasn’t happened”, Shepard said. “Circumstances may change over time or he may be in a situation where it does not recur for many years or at all”. He received drug treatments and radiation therapy. “For today, the news can not be better”, Lichtenfeld said. In general, immunotherapy works in different ways from chemotherapy. Since leaving the White House, he has remained active, carrying out humanitarian efforts with his Carter Center, which focuses on human rights efforts and political mediation. “I haven’t been uncomfortable or ill after the treatments were over”.
Jill Stuckey, a church member who helps organize Carter’s lessons, said that “our prayers have been answered”.
A lot has been surprised by this news – in fact, not even one of Carter’s friends had an idea how to handle the news.
