Jimmy Carter tells church class about death of his grandson, 28
Former President Carter continued to teach Sunday school that day despite the awful loss.
Former president Jimmy Carter’s grandson has died unexpectedly at the age of 28.
Maranatha Baptist Church Rev. Jeremy Shoulta told the outlet that the family desperately tried to revive Jeremy with CPR before he was rushed to the hospital.
Carter described Jeremy as “a very special child” who was preparing to transfer to a university to be closer to family.
In 2005, Jeremy Carter, then 18, was sentenced to 30 days of house arrest, three years of probation and ordered to undergo drug counseling following his arrest in a Peachtree City home break-in.
No cause of death for the younger Carter was immediately available. According to a CNN report Carter in a statement said, “My most recent MRI brain scan did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots nor any new ones”.
During his Sunday school class, Shoulta said Carter completed his lesson, but “it was apparent to everyone there that this was weighing on him very heavily”.
“I should be joyful and thankful to God for giving me both life and freedom”, the 91-year-old author said. Everything that happens in life, good or bad, he uses as a teaching experience.
He told the congregation that Jeremy hadn’t been feeling well Saturday afternoon and had lain down for a nap.
“So he went to his room to lay on the bed and when they went to see if he was OK and his heart quit beating”, Carter said quietly in front of his class at Maranatha Baptist Church.
