Jimmy Clausen Waived by Bears Monday
The Bears waived backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen on Monday, promoting practice-squadder David Fales rather than lose him to another team.
“I think, like a big part of our roster, we’re looking at young guys”, coach John Fox said. Clausen certainly lived up to that label when he played in place of an injured Jay Cutler during the second half of the Bears’ Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals and the entirety of their Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks. “That’s not been done at this point”.
Clausen started a game this year for the Bears, and has an all-time record of 1-11 as a starter.
Fales, 25, has yet to appear in a regular-season game.
David Fales was selected by the Bears in the sixth round of the 2014 draft out of San Jose State.
One team that likely expressed an interest in Fales was the Baltimore Ravens, who not only lost starting quarterback Joe Flacco for the season on Sunday but also happen to have former Bears head coach Marc Trestman on staff as their offensive coordinator. To prevent him from signing elsewhere, the Bears had to elevate Fales to the 53-man roster. But he excelled as the starter in the preseason finale against the Browns, completing 14 of 18 passes for 131 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 134.0 passer rating.
