Jindal has shock response to pro-Planned Parenthood rally
The case arose as the Center for Medical Progress released videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing their practices in harvesting and distributing aborted fetal organs for research. Both men and women also receive other services, such as cancer screening, from Planned Parenthood. “Moreover, there is no evidence that any Planned Parenthood site in this commonwealth is involved in the buying or selling of fetal tissue”.
The protests are not a “top-down” effort, he said, rather a way to strengthen local pro-life groups in the various areas participating.
Certain partisan members of Congress are leaping to judgment over a heavily edited video, recorded apparently illegally, in yet another of the incessant initiatives to defund Planned Parenthood.
“Presently, we don’t have any arrangements with anybody to offer our patients the opportunity to donate fetal tissue for life-saving research, although we think it’s a great idea”, says Lori Carpentier, CEO and President of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan.
Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast planned the rally to protest Jindal’s decision to terminate the state’s Medicaid contract with the organization.
Planned Parenthood contended that the state was using new and unannounced measurements to make the allegation, effectively shortening the definition of the first trimester. However, Planned Parenthood operates only one of the three clinics in South Carolina that provides abortions.
Cruz also characterized Planned Parenthood as a “business of killing unborn children on an industrial scale” and listed abortions as the “lifeblood” of the organization.
I would suggest the congressman look to an area in his own district – Scott County – to see what happened in rural, underserved communities when residents lose a valuable health care provider such as Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood said on Wednesday it would drop a petition for an emergency injunction against Florida health officials, after the state backed away from what the reproductive health group had called an attempt to redefine gestation periods. However, even though Planned Parenthood claims that abortion represents only a minute percentage of its services, it still accounted for 327,000 babies being killed between October 1, 2011, and September 30, 2012. Mann said the agency has never completely revoked the entire federal portion of a state’s Medicaid funding, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
