Jindal: Westboro Baptist Church members ‘will be locked up’ if they protest
Gov. Bobby Jindal believes Louisiana law is strong enough to prevent people with mental illnesses, like the Lafayette shooter, from purchasing a gun.
“Let me be very clear”. A Jindal spokesman says state police learned that Westboro is planning to disrupt funeral services for the two women Houser killed.
Appearing Sunday on CBS’ Face the Nation, Jindal warned Westboro not to “try that in Louisiana”.
Funeral services are today for 21-year-old Mayci Breaux and 33-year-old Jillian Johnson, the victims in last week’s shooting at The Grand Theatre in Lafayette. We’re going to lock them up. They shouldn’t try that in Louisiana. “We won’t abide by that here”, he added.
‘In times of grief and mourning, the rule of law is especially important to protect the rights of citizens when they are most vulnerable, and any effort to disrupt or interfere with a family’s ability to grieve following the loss of a loved one is a reprehensible act, ‘ the Republican wrote, according to The Hill.
Westboro Baptist members have also stated intentions show up at other funerals for high-profile individuals such as Whitney Houston, Steve Jobs, and victims of the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis without following through. The protestors must stay 300 to 500 feet away from funeral proceedings for two hours prior to the event until two hours after it concludes. Likewise, police will arrest Westboro Church Members who attempt to block the funeral route based on Bobby Jindal’s order.
“They better not try that nonsense here”, Jindal said.
