Jindal, who clashed with Christie at GOP debate, ends presidental bid
While introducing Romney at a fundraiser Monday, Jindal called Obama’s campaign “increasingly desperate” and said he was the “most liberal and incompetent president since Jimmy Carter”.
Asked on Fox News whether he would endorse another candidate, Jindal said, “I haven’t given that a lot of thought”. “It’s not easy. He’s a fighter and his instinct is to never give up, but also you have to be realistic in politics”.
Jindal attributed his campaign’s lack of success to time spent on detailed policy papers and mentioned he would continue his work at a think tank he set up several years ago.
“He’s been thinking about it for a few weeks”, said campaign strategist Curt Anderson.
He failed to qualify for the prime-time Republican debate on November 10, but during the forum for lower-polling candidates, he went on the attack against his rivals onstage.
Jindal has remained near the bottom among the presidential hopefuls since he entered the presidential race. “The reality though is, they told me as a young child, Americans can do anything”. “Their biggest question is still whether they can get a dog”.
Republican primary voters are now left with just 14 candidates for the GOP nomination.
He is the latest governor to drop out of the race, following Scott Walker and Rick Perry.
Jindal served two terms as a U.S. Congressman for the First District of Louisiana from 2004 through 2007.
