JJ Watt has surgery, could miss Chiefs-Texans in Week 2
On JJ Watt’s back surgery: I’m told the recovery time is 6-8 weeks & it happened very recently.
New England will be fielding back-up quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo during the suspension of Tom Brady and my big concern for the Texans game was how Garoppolo would handle the pressure from Watt.
Watt spent most of the off-season recovering after having surgery to fix a groin injury in January. It’s being reported that Watt, who seems to be hurt often, had surgery for a herniated disc this week and his status for the start of the season – and Chiefs-Texans in Week 2 – is in question. If he proves he was worth investment and helps Houston’s offense keep pace with vaunted defense if Watt is at full speed Texans should be much improved from last season, when they benefited from weak AFC South to reach playoffs. Later, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network tweeted the 10-week timetable before Ian Rapoport said eight weeks is the best-case scenario. This is Watt’s second surgery in six months. In that time, he has racked up 74.5 sacks, including a league-leading 17.5 last season. A player is eligible to come the list at any point prior to the regular season.
Watt has never missed a game in his five-year career, one that has seen him named first-team all-pro four times.
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is as tough as it gets.
