JK: Two jawans killed as militants attack CRPF convoy
The official said soon after the attack, the militants rushed towards nearby EDI building and took refuge in it amid heavy exchange of gunfire with CRPF’s Road Opening Party (ROP).
“After hearing the gunshots we came out of the building to inquire what happened outside”.
About 80 people have been evacuated from various sides of the complex and efforts are on to sanitise the EDI building.
Two CRPF troopers were killed and 10 other people including civilians injured on Saturday in a gunfight between guerrillas and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
He further said that numbers of employees are inside the institute, security forces or on job to evacuate them safely.
“In the first round of evacuation, 23 civilians were taken out to safety from the 4-storey main office building”. Nine CRPF personnel wounded in the attack are admitted to the Army’s Base Hospital in Srinagar.
Driver/Constable R.K.Raina and Head Constable Bhola Prasad Singh have been martyred in the attack. There are reports that two to five militants are in the buildings. The attackers reportedly three to four in all, seemed in a hurry and were directing each other frantically.
Suspected rebels this evening attacked a CRPF vehicle near a government building in Pampore area, which is close to Srinagar city.
The authorities diverted the traffic on the highway, which generally witnesses huge traffgic density on Saturday afternoon.
The employees and trainee students were also present when militants entered the EDI campus. Three of the injured jawans later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
