Some news channels have claimed that the videos, which have been doing rounds on the social media about the Kumar raising anti-national slogans were “doctored’.According to official sources, the original video of his speech depicts him as demanding independence from the prevalent caste system and communal ideas”.
“They did nothing to stop the attack or catch the attackers”, the panel has said in a stinging indictment of the Delhi Police.
New Delhi: JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar faces a contempt of court case in the Supreme Court next week even before he gets bail in the alleged sedition case.Kanhaiya is among seven persons named in the contempt petition filed by a city lawyer.
Delhi Police has issued look-out notice for three youths in connection with the controversial event at JNU last week in which anti-India slogans were allegedly raised. It says though the JNU student did not complain of torture in custody, he was subjected to “psychological pressure during interrogation”. The statement, which was issued by police as an appeal on behalf of Kanhaiya Kumar, was not written by him voluntarily.
NHRC report further said, “Going by the sequence of events, the safety and security of Kanhaiya and his family members is a serious cause of concern”. Kanhaiya was arrested on February 12 after an event held on the university campus on February 9 against the hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
The groups of students clashed at the main gate of the University.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, who has often taken a position at variance with the party’s stand, on February 17 came out in support of arrested JNU student union leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who is facing sedition charges, and called for his release soon. The high court is likely to hear the case on Monday.
Police later dispersed the protestors, the DCP said, adding no one was injured in the incident and the situation was normal now.
