Joakim Soria trade rumors: Pittsburgh Pirates ‘nearing deal’ for Detroit
The Tigers and Pirates have agreed to a deal sending Detroit closer Joakim Soria to Pittsburgh, the Pirates announced.
After shipping Price out for the three top Toronto Blue Jays’ prospects, Dave Dombrowski has moved on to another, shopping Joakim Soria around.
The extensive information on the position haven t yet be approved, but Fox Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi confirmed Detroit receive a minor leaguer.
The Pirates already have Mark Melancon, an All-Star who’s been excellent since a shaky start, in the closer’s role, but just about any team can always use bullpen help.
He hasn’t been dominant in that span, though, giving up 11 hits, walking seven and hitting two batters in 13 1/3 innings, though he had 16 strikeouts. He owned a 1.78 ERA with 43 saves. In terms of predictive metrics, it would appear Soria should have a correction coming. The. He’s also stranded 94.7 percent of his baserunners as compared to 80.6 percent on his career. 288 with 23 home runs at low-A West Virginia in 2014, then posted a. 253 average with 10 home runs at high-A Bradenton earlier this season, before moving to Double-A for three games before the trade.
Jones, 23, was Pittsburgh’s third-round pick in 2013 out of LSU. The Pirates will not part with the prospects it will take to get a two-month rental like David Price or Johnny Cueto, or at least the front office has shown no indication of doing so.
As things stand, though, it doesn’t look like the Pirates had a ton of room for him in their system long term.
Soria was acquired by the Pirates from the Detroit Tigers Thursday.
“Soria is a veteran closer, a late-inning reliever who’s been there, done that”. Said that’s up to Brad Ausmus. Joe Nathan is the only other Tigers player who has recorded a save, and he’s out for the year. “You recognize faces because some of these guys have been playing for a while”.
