Joan Rivers’ Daughter, Melissa, Files a Wrongful Death Lawsuit against Yorkville Clinic and Doctors
Melissa Rivers, 47, daughter of late comedian Joan Rivers, filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court against the New York endoscopy clinic, two doctors and three anaesthesiologists.
The lawsuit was filled for gross negligence and carelessness that led to the fatal complication during routine throat surgery on her 81-year-old mother, last August. Melissa’s lawyers Ben Rubinowitz and Jeffrey Bloom assert that the lawsuit is filed to ensure that their client receives a well-deserved justice and that the medical mismanagement, disrespect incompetency, and outrageous behaviour is never repeated by any outpatient surgical clinic.
The legendary “Fashion Police” star was a pioneering female stand-up comedian, writer, producer, and TV host. Her style of satirical humour was praised as well as criticized as truthful, yet too gossipy and personal, and many times even acerbic. Joan sure had a big heart. She, in her will, designated her fortune worth $150 million to her family, friends and various Charities. Melissa was named an executor of her estate, receiving the entire tangible personal property belonging to Joan. Other beneficiaries of the entertainer’s will include Joan’s grandson Cooper, niece Caroline Waxler, nephew Andrew Waxler, along with her staff members.
Joan apparently died from therapeutic complication from cardiac arrest and brain damage due to lack of oxygen. The comedian stopped breathing during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at the clinic. The simple throat procedure was botched up by the doctors who wrongfully performed the biopsy that led to her choking. She was later rushed to Mount Sinai hospital and placed on life support. Joan passed away a week later on Sept 4th, 2014.
The lawsuit also files charged against doctors who were busy taking cellphone pictures of an unconscious Joan and missed the alarms when her vital signs plummeted. The death of Joan Rivers is really still shocking for us! She was a personality whom Hollywood will never forget.
