Joe Allen misses out on Wales squad
Joe Allen will miss both of Wales’ UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers with Cyprus and Israel after failing to recover in time from a hamstring injury.
The Real Madrid forward, transferred to the Spanish giants from London club Tottenham Hotspur for a world record fee of £85.3 million ($133.3 million, 116.6 million euros) in September 2013, had been doubtful with a toe injury suffered in Sunday’s goalless draw with Sporting Gijon.
But an X-ray showed no break and Bale, 26, has been declared fully fit.
Gareth Bale has been named in Wales’ squad for their crucial Euro 2016 qualifiers against Cyprus and Israel after suffering a fitness scare.
There is an outside chance Allen could be available for the home game with Israel three days later.
Allen has yet to feature for Liverpool this season since picking up the injury in early August, and Coleman has opted not to take a risk with 25-year-old for the double header.
“So to have him [Allen] injured and Joe Ledley not playing as well, and obviously Wayne Hennessey, it’s a tough one for Coleman”.
Wales have a three-point lead at the top of their group with four games remaining after a stunning 1-0 victory over Belgium in June.
Elsewhere, Wolves midfielder David Edwards has been recalled to the squad, while Liverpool youngster Joradan Williams, now on loan at Swindon Town, also gets a call.
Wayne Hennessey, Ashley Williams, James Chester, Neil Taylor, Joe Ledley, Aaron Ramsey and Tom Lawrence make up the other Premier League names in the squad.
