Joe Barry to join Rams coaching staff
The Los Angeles Rams have ended their coaching search by hiring Sean McVay Thursday afternoon.
McVay has already named his defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips, the former defensive boss for the Denver Broncos. Then the offensive coordinator at Miami (Ohio), Montgomery visited Marist to see McVay in 2003, but found it hard just to get past the school office. Be prepared for every Rams broadcast to marvel at how young this guy is.
“The accomplishments and success that he has had in less than a decade in our league are impressive”, Rams owner Stan Kroenke said in a statement.
Los Angeles’ other National Football League team also is making headlines.
McVay completed his third year as the team’s offensive coordinator, and his offense averaged more than 400 yards per game for the first time in franchise history, this season. Now his fate is tied to his quarterback, Jared Goff, taken first overall after Snead traded to move up 14 spots.
“Really happy for Sean McVay!”.
The Rams don’t fear handing over the reins to a youthful McVay.
Ultimately, McVay is well aware of the challenges ahead with the Rams but is prepared to do whatever it takes to get through them.
“It’s great for both of them, for the Rams and for Sean”, the 86-year-old McVay told FOX Sports by phone. Lane Kiffin, the previous holder of that distinction, was four months shy of his 32nd birthday when the Raiders hired him in 2007.
So with news emerging that they’re getting some intracity competition, the Los Angeles Rams announced unveiled their new coach.
The move to McVay was an interesting one for the Rams.
Phillips previously led the Denver Broncos’ defense, which finished fourth this season and first in its Super Bowl-winning 2015 campaign.
Having a seasoned coach such as Phillips, McVay said, will help him delegate and empower assistants. His son, Wes, worked with McVay as tight ends coach for the Redskins.
The Cardinals played the Redskins twice during McVay’s time at the helm of the offense, emerging with two home wins on October 12, 2014 and December 4, 2016.
Kromer served as an offensive line and running backs coach for the Saints from 2008 to 2012 before spending the 2013 and 2014 seasons as the Bears’ offensive coordinator under Marc Trestman. He also had a completion percentage of 67 and a quarterback rating of 72.1. “So he’s been immersed in the McVay family, but also in the Gruden family”. “Let’s do this thing!” His grandfather, John, spent 21 seasons in the San Francisco 49ers’ front office as a top executive involved in building several outstanding teams.
