Joe Biden Gets Standing Ovation at Oscars
The hitmaker and nominee took to the stage to perform ‘Til It Happens To You, before being joined by survivors of sexual assault. Gaga was later joined on stage by dozens of young people, holding hands in solidarity. The moving performance received a standing ovation from its audience and even moved several celebs like Rachel McAdams and Kate Winslet, who were seen shedding some tears. Lady Gaga helped create one of the most powerful songs of the year, “Till It Happens To You”, which sends a message to those who allow sexual violence to continue.
Despite the stirring performance, Gaga did not walk away with the award for Best Original Song.
“I’m the least qualified man here tonight”, Biden said, calming the audience’s applause.
“Lets” change the culture so that no abused woman woman or man ever feels they have to ask themselves, “What do I do?’ They did nothing wrong.”
Gaga identified herself as “a survivor” in an interview before the awards show, Reuters reported.
“Till It Happens To You” is a tribute to not only the victims in the film, but all victims of sexual assault who came forward with claims of assault only to be silenced by society. It’s something that is deeply connected to my heart, I am myself a survivor. “He’s stood by me all night proud and unashamedly.THAT’S a real man”.
Earlier in the evening, Gaga tweeted a attractive picture of her and fiance Taylor Kinney, and wrote about her own experience. That went to “Writing’s on the Wall”, the theme song from the James Bond movie “Spectre”, co-written and sung by Sam Smith.
The song was written for American fillmmaker Kirby Dick’s documentary, The Hunting Ground, which tackles sexual assault on U.S. college campuses.
