Joe Philbin says he doesn’t see Ndamukong Suh freelancing
Red-zone problems and a non-existent ground game are wasting otherwise strong performances by Tannehill and Miami’s receivers. I could sit here and pontificate about how good we’ve been in the three years that I’ve been here in terms of penalties, but the film says it’s not very good.
The Dolphins have been putrid when running the ball. They’re averaging just 17 rushes per game, compared to 39 passes, and only 3.4 yards per rush. “In any case, it’s just the second week of the season”. If you turned on a Dolphins game and didn’t know who No. 93 was, he might well blend in. It’s not by saying something or putting a game plan together.
However, Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin has been supporting Suh since the report came out.
Pro Football Focus, which grades players on each play, gave left guard Dallas Thomas and left tackle Jason Fox a negative run blocking grade against Jacksonville.
The Miami Dolphins have played bad.
“I think (the mood is) still upbeat”, center Mike Pouncey said. The Dolphins enjoyed their 15 minutes of headline grabbing attention, and nothing could stop the wagon train which now seems on the verge of derailment.
It is too early to tell what the outcome of the 2015 season will be, it is turning out to be just that kind of season. The Dolphins have Damien Williams and Jonas Gray, who was promoted from the practice squad today, as backups.
While the ground game has been less than stellar, Miami’s passing game mostly has been strong. Ndamukong has just managed one assists and two tackles with no sacks. He suffered an ankle injury late, but doesn’t expect to miss Sunday’s game.
Not for the Dolphins, now 1-1 after the temerity of a loss at “lowly” Jacksonville. We’ve got to learn from it.
All of this starts up front and up front is where nothing is getting done.
Eagles high-priced running back DeMarco Murray has 11 rushing yards through three games and could be labeled a full-blown bust in the coming weeks. Other teams around the league, like the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers for instance, are traditionally less active during the free agent signing period, and these teams understandably, seldom get into salary cap trouble. Both watched Sunday’s completion from the sideline, as did tight end Jordan Cameron (crotch) and cautious end Cameron Wake (hamstring).
Linebacker Koa Misi, though not singling out Suh by name, blamed “guys out of position, not fitting right”, to the Palm Beach Post, mentioning “a couple plays where guys weren’t where they’re supposed to be, so [the Jaguars] gashed us”. All in all all four of the defensive line positions are clearly in need of improvement.
