Joe Scarborough Rips Fox News ‘Gotcha’ Debate, NY Times’ Misleading Donald
John McCain’s war hero status already have gotten him in trouble, but he crossed a line for more Americans by tastelessly dismissing one of the Fox News moderators at the Thursday night GOP debate in Cleveland.
“This wasn’t meant to be much of an insult”, the billionaire real estate executive and Republican presidential candidate said in a telephone interview with NBC’s “Today” show.
During the debate, Kelly asked the Republican candidate about negative statements he has made in the past about women. While reading out some of the terms Trump has used, like “disgusting” and “fat pig”, he interrupted Kelly, claiming he had only used those words to describe one woman. Asked about Kelly within the Oopspro question on Friday, Trump said: “You could look at there is blood coming from her eye area”.
All Trump would say was that there would “be nobody better than Donald Trump” to address women’s issues. “The other candidates are very lucky because at least people are watching what they’re saying as opposed to nobody caring”. “Who would say that?” I think that Donald Trump may actually become the Republican nominee for President of the United States and then he’ll have to go head to head with my girl Hillary Clinton.
“I don’t understand it myself”, he went on, “I have double-digit leads in every poll”.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush called on Trump to apologize.
“There’s tremendous value in Fox News establishing its profile in the national conversation”, said Paul Sweeney, a senior media analyst with Bloomberg Intelligence. He has singled out anchor Megyn Kelly as treating him particularly unfairly. But Trump wouldn’t say whether any discussions had taken place.
Donald Trump yesterday insisted he “cherishes” women even as he refused to apologise for appearing to suggest that a female journalist was menstruating during last week’s debate.
But, she said, she worries for women “who may not have the opportunity to defend themselves, who may lose the right to exercise a personal choice if certain of the Republicans were to be successful – I don’t want that forgotten”. “She should be apologizing to me, if you want to know the truth”.
