Joe Taslim joins ‘Star Trek Beyond’
Actor and martial artist Joe Taslim has joined the cast of Star Trek Beyond, THR reports.
The movie, the third installment of the rebooted sci-fi franchise, is now in production in Vancouver and reunited the main cast including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban and John Cho. Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sofia Boutella will be among new cast members. He previously played a villainous role in Lin’s Furious Six.
His flawless stunts were particularly noted in the “Fast and Furious 6” when he dismantled Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Han (Sung Kang) in a subway station. Taslim is no stranger to Justin Lin helmed franchise sequels. According to the trade, Taslim’s role is closely connected to Elba’s character.
Scripted by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg – who returns as fan-favorite Scotty – both writers have been vocal in the past about their desire to create a film that differentiates itself from the more commercial of J.J. It is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
