Joey Barton has West Ham medical ahead of surprise move
West Ham are confident of signing Barton and expect a deal to be done within the next 48 hours. Song enjoyed a largely productive loan spell at Upton Park last season and West Ham are attractive to Song because of his family’s desire to live in London, but the move was held up after the 27-year-old midfielder suffered an ankle injury in pre-season.
Jack Sullivan, son of West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan, has denied free agent Joey Barton is having a medical at the club despite reports to the contrary from Sky Sports News.
It isn’t the only time he’s publicly criticised the former QPR man, either, saying this after Barton’s infamous spat with Dietmar Hamann…
That pair, along with Almen Abdi, would push Barton hard for a place in the side at Vicarage Road, and it seems that any potential move has completely broken down now.
It is not the first time the owner has embarrassed himself online, earlier this summer he posted a tweet welcoming new signing Pedro Obiang with an image of then Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna, who went on to sign for the Hammers a few weeks later. The playmaker was working at the Vitality Stadium for Bournemouth’s game against Aston Villa, where he joked he was the best player in the ground.
Although West Ham began their season with an impressive 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, they are still looking to make further additions to Slaven Bilic’s squad, which lacks depth in a couple of positions.
