John Aldridge: ‘Liverpool right to sack Brendan Rodgers’
“Although this has been a hard decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch”, the club said in a statement.
Liverpool have begun their search for a new manager, but whoever comes in must grapple with numerous issues that caused problems for the sacked Brendan Rodgers.
“I think Liverpool can target finishing between fourth and sixth, which is where we really should be”. It’s tough on him, but I’m sure it won’t be long until he gets another job.
Liverpool announced that Rodgers had had his contract terminated in a statement on the club’s official website which was released at 6.30pm.
“I can’t believe that. A very, very harsh decision“, said Monk.
Klopp has been installed as a frontrunner to take charge at Anfield in reality and would be a popular choice among the club’s supporters given his passion and willingness to play an attacking brand of football.
“He is a top manager“.
“According to a few people, a three-game run is a blip, but I know my players have quality”.
Former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher: “He needed to make a good start to the season because he was maybe fortunate in terms of staying on at the end of last season“.
Having impressed at Watford and then struggled at Reading, Rodgers took over at Swansea in 2010 and immediately delivered promotion to the Premier League.
Over the summer the manager was further backed in the transfer market – and bizarrely his two coaches paid the price for last season’s failure – leaving Brendan somewhat alone if he did not start the season well.
Carlo Ancelotti and Frank de Boer will also come under consideration but Klopp is viewed as the ideal replacement by Anfield’s hierarchy.
“It doesn’t make sense to me”.
Addressing the challenge facing owners Fenway Sports Group, Carragher was critical of their performance at the helm of the club.
“I looked at the players the last couple of games and they seemed to be giving everything for the manager”. They’ve brought in players from Brazil and I don’t think he will have known much about them. It’s already being reported that he has accepted the job, but we will wait for official confirmation on that one or a more reliable source to report it. Klopp is a high-energy manager who relies on pace in attack and a united defense that isn’t afraid to get dirty.
Advocaat said: “I have made the decision to go after only eight games as I felt it was important to give everyone time to turn things around”. It remains to be seen what the club’s next step will be, with an global break next, they may take their time.
