John Cena Grants 500th Wish On NBC’s Today Show
The actor and WWE star recently set a record with his 500th appearance for the Make-A-Wish foundation. His long history with Make-A-Wish includes donating six million airline miles to help fulfill travel needs for wish kids.
8-year-old Rocco Lanzer of Queens, New York was diagnosed with leukemia in January and will sit ringside during Monday’s “Raw” at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center as part of his wish.
Rocco, who needs at least three years of treatment, appeared on a video package where he said Cena is “nice and strong and inspirational”. Cena had already met the youngster once, but the kid said he wasn’t feeling so great that day, and couldn’t have the kind of conversation with his hero that he wanted.
Sometimes, dreams do come true – this weekend, one boy is getting the chance to meet his idol on the trip of a lifetime.
The wrestler also had some words of encouragement. Cena brought the young man and his family to the “Today Show” to do just that. Last week, DoSomething.org ranked Cena as the second-most charitable athlete in the world, and now there’s a bit more context to that status. He was like, ‘Wow, mommy, that’s what Jogn Cena says.’ I’m like, ‘See, if a wrestler tells you to never give up, then you can’t give up. But at the same time, the strength of the parents in sending me a message about how much the time that I spent with their child meant to them, it’s very special.”I just drop everything”.
