John Cena, Victoria Justice to host Teen Choice Awards
The Mirrors singer was given the Decade Award by former LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant on Sunday night, and was awarded for his contributions across the board – from Saturday Night Live, to glittering world tours.
Also making up the victor list thanks to their social media activities were Kylie Jenner, Christina Grimmie, Fifth Harmony and Cameron Dallas. The Teen Choice Awards took to Twitter and announced Hillary Clinton as the victor.
Fans were angry that Grimmie, as she was known, was not referenced at all during the show, even though the show dedicated a special segment to the victims of gun violence.
She went on to explain how each teen was connected to someone who died by gun violence.
Jessica Alba took the stage with ten teens who were affected by firearms, from mass shootings in Orlando, San Bernardino, Sandy Hook and Dallas to police violence in Baton Rouge.
While we are glad that Christina finally won her much deserved Teen Choice Award, we are also definitely disappointed that her name was not mentioned at any point during the two-hour broadcast. “The fans have a right to be upset”.
The 35-year-old slipped into a semi-sheer black crop top and a pair of high-waisted pants, flaunting her svelte figure in the racy ensemble.
Fans are venting their rage on social media, decrying the awards for not showing Grimmie the respect she deserved.
The most high-profile complaint came from YouTube star Shane Dawson, who last month criticized the TCA account for a tweet that read “Retweet to vote in memory of @TheRealGrimmie for #ChoiceMusicWebStar“.
Several fans also accused the Fox fete of exploiting the singer’s death for clicks.
In fact, Grimmie and her win weren’t even mentioned during the telecast, which omitted some categories due to time constraints.
Daisy Ridley said she was “forever grateful” to everyone who voted for her role of Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
ET has reached out to Fox for comment.
Christina starred in the USA version of The Voice with Maroon 5’s Adam Levine as her mentor.
