John Lennon Shot 35 Years ago

On Wednesday’s morning show a tribute to Beatles legend John Lennon was shown from NY on what was the 35th anniversary since his death.

The Beatles co-founder was shot dead on December 8, 1980, in front of his Manhattan apartment building.

It will be of little comfort to anyone who knew and loved his music but John Lennon had been doing much of what he loved most on the day he died.

Lennon and the Beatles redefined rock and roll. Mark David Chapman gunned down Lennon in the doorway of the Dakota building on the evening of December 8, 1980, after the rock icon and his wife had returned home from a recording session. Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life for Lennon’s murder. He was denied parole a year ago. As Lennon and Ono returned home, groups of fans were waiting outside their apartment hoping to get an autograph from John.

Chapman drew a revolver and fired five shots, striking Lennon in the back with four.

Tuesday is the 35th anniversary of John Lennon’s death.

Miss Ono was taken to the hospital in another auto, he said. By 11:15 p.m., he was gone and the entire world would soon be in shock. An estimated crowd of 2,000 people came to honor the former Beatle who was murdered in NY.

In 1976, he won resident’s status in the United States after a court fight against a deportation order stemming from a British drug conviction. Just before his assassination, Lennon had released a new solo album Double Fantasy and was seen by many to be on the musical comeback trail. The album, which includes songs by his wife, is based on Lennon’s experiences over the five years, during which he kept house, cooked and cared for their son.
