John McEnroe: I can beat Serena right now
He revealed, however, that not all the McEnroes were so confident that he could beat the women’s world number one.
Often, they’re just there to say hi and smile, but occasionally, they drop a bomb like John McEnroe did last night.
During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, McEnroe was asked whether or not he could win a serious match against Serena Williams.
Williams, 33, who heads to Flushing later this month aiming to tie Steffi Graf (22) for second place on the all-time grand slam list, has a 43-2 record this season.
“Fifteen years ago Donald Trump … made an offer which I felt like was not enough”, McEnroe said of a proposed exhibition match.
Said Braasch of the different between the men’s and women’s tour: “Both sisters are great tennis players and hit the ball extremely well”.
“I think he was humouring the two of us”. “If I lose, to God forbid, to a women then I’m not allowed into any men’s locker room for the next 15 years, or possibly the end of my life”.
“I don’t think I could take her in the ring”, McEnroe said. “So that’s part of why it’s intriguing”.
McEnroe subsequently likened the fantasy match to a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.
Serena Williams has been almost unbeatable this season as she heads to the U.S. Open looking to complete the rare calendar grand slam.
