John Oliver Destroys Donald Trump On ‘Last Week Tonight’
On the February 28 edition, Oliver began his monologue by admitting that he had “mostly ignored Trump on this show”, but Trump’s recent wins in the New Hampshire, Nevada, and SC primaries had at last earned him one of Oliver’s famous rants.
He began by explaining that “Donald Trump is America’s back mole-it may have seemed harmless a year ago, but now that it has gotten frighteningly bigger, it is no longer wise to ignore it”. And that’s just the beginning. It’s quite amusing that it may have taken a British comedian to finally enlighten the masses as to the huge mess of a politician Donald Trump actually is. Oliver tackled each of reasons Trump fans frequently cite as why they support the real estate developer and former NBC reality host in his presidential bid.
Oliver, who has largely avoided discussing Trump on his show, was unequivocal in his criticism of the Republican frontrunner. He said, “Donald Trump can seem appealing until you take a closer look much like the lunch buffet at a strip club, the National Football League, or having a pet chimpanzee”.
Then Oliver offered a novel strategy for those who wish to battle Trump: refer to the candidate by “Drumpf”, what one biographer said the Trump family name was before it “evolved over the centuries”.
As for why Oliver may be picking on Trump so viciously? Oliver went on to say that Trump considered his brand, i.e. the Trump name, as a $3 billion part of his personal wealth, the total amount of which changes depending on Trump’s mood.
Oliver then proposed to do this – with “Drumpf” hats sold at cost at the website DonaldJDrumpf.com, the hashtag #MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain, and an app that replaces “Trump” with “Drumpf” in web browsers. It’s the sound produced when a morbidly obese pigeon flies into the window of a foreclosed Old Navy.
“Mr. Drumpf, I await your lawsuit in the morning”, Oliver said.
